Couples Intensive

is this for us?

ARE WE CANDIDATES FOR INTENSIVE COUPLES COUNSELING – A COUPLES WEEKEND WORKSHOP?

Yes, IF…

  • You don’t have time in your weekly schedule for sessions, that just seems soooo drawn out and time consuming, and you really want a jumpstart to reignite your connection.
  • You are stuck in an endless loop of arguing/blaming/retreating/shutting down and need RELIEF.
  • You are seeking to repair your relationship after an affair, emotional or physical.
  • You are thinking about separation or divorce, but really REALLY want to try to make it work.

Probably not, IF…

  • There is current domestic violence.
  • There is current substance abuse with no plan for treatment/recovery.
  • There is an ongoing affair with no plan to end it.
  • One of you has definite intentions (expressed or unexpressed) of ending the relationship.

The Power of Two Highly Focused Days for Intensive Couples Therapy

Intensive Couples Therapy and Counseling is a couples weekend workshop for any couple who are committed to saving their relationship and want to get a jump start into the counseling process.  Here you have a private and dedicated time, lasting 2 (to 3) days, of back-to-back counseling sessions.

The Double Espresso of a Couples Weekend Workshop
Clients who have completed an intensive have reported back that they notice a big shift in their knowing each other, knowing themselves and a positive movement forward to emotional connectedness.  In simple terms, it’s the double espresso version of couples counseling.

While it’s not to be looked at as a “quick fix,” it’s more meant to get couples on the road to repair and connection sooner after spending 2 days together rather than waiting for the much-needed results of weekly sessions.

How Does intensive couples Therapy Work?

Prep

You and your partner complete three intake sessions, one together and one each separately with Amber, before the agreed upon weekend workshop date.

Reading

You will read the book "Hold Me Tight" by Dr. Sue Johnson before coming to the workshop. This will help you understand your negative cycle and how it erodes your connections, and learn how your your attachment style plays into the way you relate with your partner.

Couples Counseling

You will begin to experience how it feels to de-escalate from your negative cycle and discover underlying emotions and needs that are driving it. Then you learn how to communicate in a deeper, more vulnerable way and see what it really feels like to listen, hear and be accepted.

What do Couples Say About It?

Our time with you for the (couples) intensive was so valuable and has really helped us in our communication with each other. Thank you!

It is always our hope that you notice significant changes in your connection after the intensive weekend, so in order to capitalize on the good work you have done, it is recommended to continue seeing a counselor on a frequency that works for you and your schedule. We will call this a good maintenance program.

Sometimes what you learn in an intensive weekend is brand new and takes time to integrate into the relationship, so coming to see your therapist on a regular basis ensures that it sticks. Some couples are done and get what they needed out of the weekend, and some require subsequent sessions. So it’s really all up to you and what you want. If you do not live in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, your counselor can refer you to an EFT therapist in your area for follow-up counseling.
