Why Acacia?
Oh, and if you’re wondering how Acacia Counseling got its name …
The acacia tree, found in Africa, Australia and other tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world, is known for its resiliency. It is a thriver. It is the first to rise again from the ashes after a fire. No matter what life has thrown at you, you are resilient and you too can rise and thrive.
Amber’s take on EFT and how couples therapy works
How Love Goes Wrong
We learn from an early age how to cope with stressful situations. When our primary needs are not met, we learn to rely on ourselves for comfort. In some ways this is healthy — we learn to survive! — and in other ways it leaves us feeling alone and unnurtured. We play out our anxious or avoidant strategies through our behaviors, and over time these behaviors do not serve us or the relationship.
Find a Path Forward
In EFT, we work to unpack what went wrong, make sense of why we do what we do that is unhealthy, and we help couples find a path that is deeper and more meaningful in their relationship. With the use of unconditional positive regard for you and where you have come from, I strive to create safety in my sessions for the couple to experience positive emotional shifts in their connection. What we accomplish in sessions then, with work on the couples part, can be transferred into the home environment, thereby transforming the relationship.
